Today I worked on tackling the staging of one of my refinished furniture pieces for my trunk show. The piece itself if a good starting point with its great lines and cute detail adding a little fun to the table. I then started with adding much-needed height. The lamp I stole from another room of the house added the height and the task lighting needed in this space. I then offset that height with this candelabra which is one of my favorite antique store finds. I found two identical in an antique store but they had these awful tassels on them. I just removed the tassels and now love using these in all kinds of ways across the house. Earlier this year I had one on each side of the entry table creating the balance that the lamp does now. It works to use two of the same thing on either end like I did with the candelabras before or using different items like shown here. Feel free to mix it up. This candelabra is a unique addition that adds a lot of style to the design of this table.
Next, I added the set of classic books. I used a grouping of 3 on their side on the top and added the rest to balance out the piece on the bottom shelf to the opposite side of the top grouping. Then I added the suitcases to add a great vintage touch. I love mixing old antiques with new décor. You see that play out in the design of every room of my house. I needed a perfect place for these suite cases and they look wonderful here. They are also a great place to hid things that need to be stored but in an unpredictable way. (It can be a great place to hid the chocolate from your kids or in my case my husband!)
I always think that a good lantern adds tons of charm and this one is no different. Its shape mixes up all the rectangles in the design so far. With the candelabra, I added 4 other items of differing shapes, heights and textures to finish it off. Make sure to mix up the textures that are being used in a space. I also used 5 things grouped here because odd groupings are always appealing to the eye.
One of my favorite combinations is this cactus growing in an old Folders Coffee tin. I always love incorporating live plants and flowers when possible. They always add great color and texture. Following that, to soften the straight lines and dark finish of the bottom shelf books I added two fun shaped decor items. Then to finish off the look the wood carved art was hung on the wall. It repeats the navy of the books and the white of the table to tie everything together.
When decorating a console table keep in mind to add height, use repeating colors and designs, use odd groupings and keep things balanced with color and height. I really like the way this grouping turned out. Now it is time to move on to another piece I just refinished and get it staged for the Trunk show April 7-9th. I can’t wait!
So, my super sweet husband surprised me with a much-needed overnight trip to Granbury TX. My first thought was yay, and my second thought was oh goodie time for some antiquing! I found some great finds for the Sweet Peace Living home décor trunk show coming up April 7-9th.
I was absolutely in love with and inspired by our Airbnb garage apartment on the lake we stayed in. Hubby did good on this one. I loved the metal awning above the stovetop. The cute metal tray and corbel combination made some unique open shelving. Everything about this place was adorable. The pillows on the couch and the ottoman were bright, fun and comfortable which made the place so cozy. I am such a big fan of reusing old doors for headboards. Especially since my own bed is adorned by one. This headboard was extra cute with a touch of antique molding on the top.
The apartment might have been a small space but it was used so well. For extra storage, the built-ins and genius shutter door closet were a great idea. I enjoyed reading a great book in bed and looking out to the lake from a well-placed window. All in all, this place was such a great find! It is on my list to go back for sure. From the moment I walked in I was inspired to rest and get creative at the same time. I also noticed that the owners were Baylor fans, which was just the icing on the cake for me. I know the owner and I could be great friends one day!
Once we got into town and got settled we went to this little gem. Every time I go I find something special. I think my two favorite pieces from this location are the antique flower prints and this copper teakettle. I have seen reproductions of flower prints becoming popular again and had seen some I like but nothing is better than the real thing. All these needed was some white paint on the frames to bring them back to life.
Then on the way home, we stopped at Grandma’s Attic, which is a big ole place. A few years back I found some antique umbrellas there and so I knew we had to stop in. I found a great old Singer sewing machine there that just needed a good cleaning. I think it has such character with the rust and the silver plates still attached. This is sure to become a fun addition to someone’s home.
This trip ended up being just the getaway we needed. It was the prefect mix of inspiration; relaxation and I found some great treasures to sale at the upcoming home decor trunk show. Win, win, win!
If you’re like me, you start pulling out the endless tubs of Christmas décor. Opening up each Christmas tub is like opening a treasure box full of forgotten things. I will never forget my first married Christmas. It was also my first Christmas to decorate my own home, however, I wanted might I add! I was so excited! It was about half way through digging through all my Christmas décor that my husband pointed out that I was very excitingly saying, “Oh Yea” every two minutes. It is always fun finding the things you forgot you bought on sale the day after Christmas and saved for the next year! I never know what I will find.
I remember getting to my container full of wreaths and pulling out by childhood wreath in all its fake blue poinsettia and old school snowflake ribbon glory. While I have very fond memories of that hanging on my door as a kid I knew it needed some updating. This year instead of trying to add all the glitz and glamor I could to my wreaths I decided to play with what hung around them add the dramatic flair that was needed.
This season there is a definite tribute to the natural beauty of nature. We are adding less to Christmas trees and often going too far as to leave them bare in decorating this season. That natural look inspired me to keep it simple like seen here in my guest room.
I always want this room to be relaxing and inviting. So, I thought less was more in this space. I was able to highlight the natural beauty of the wreath with an old window I had laying around in my garage. While it is simple there is no lack in a statement with this combo.
In my entry way, I wanted the first thing people see to be remembered. So, I used some slight sparkle on the wreath, using lights and green tones, but choose to hang it with in an old picture frame. Then I added a bit of whimsy by layering the ice skates my husband gifted me last Christmas.
I love getting to reuse things in new ways. The wreath that I loved as a kid can still brighten my Christmas but I got to leave my fake blue Poinsettias from 1999 in the Christmas bin. I just love the way these two turned out. Think twice about donating that old wreath you have from the decades past and instead give it some new life!
